Grimsby to Newcastle<\/h2>

10 – 14 September 2023<\/span><\/p>

We got ourselves out of sequence again because, although Dover was the logical next route, it was not convenient for friends we wanted to meet on the way. Grimsby seemed reasonably accessible and we knew we would be able to get back easily enough by train.<\/p>

The Road to Hull<\/h2>

Tryin\u2019 to miss the highway, we cautiously set forth
Looking for the greenway, we go south instead of north
Well, we pedal to the first lights and take it all real slow
A fearful pressure in my trusty Armadillos<\/p>

I said: Den, what are we doing here?
I\u2019ll take a fear of traffic to the grave
He said in the valley we\u2019ll soon feel rich,
And joy will cleanse the soul
I said: Den, this is the road to Hull<\/p>

On our journey ‘cross the wilderness from Grimsby to the Humber
We must not stray upon the motorway to Hull<\/p>

Well, we\u2019re cycling in a heatwave and the water\u2019s running low
And we boil with every passion you can think of
When we\u2019re far past the streetlights, there\u2019s beauty to behold,
And we can\u2019t believe our luck that it\u2019s not all wet and cold<\/p>

But this perverted pedalling nonsense cracks a smile on every face
\u2018Cause the countryside is flat but never dull
And there ain\u2019t no mechanical breakdown
Oh no, not on the road to Hull<\/p>

Then the road jams up with tractors as we climb up Bigby ridge
And soon I start to worry about crossing Humber Bridge
Look out Den, take a good look what\u2019s going on down there
I planned this journey well and planned it full
No need to take that crowded urban freeway
Oh no, this is the road to Hull.<\/p>
